Meet the Facelift Revision Team

Four physicians staff the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital. Dr. Tongchun Mao is the responsible physician for this site, and he is the surgeon who assesses a face for revision and who decides when nothing further should be offered; the Center Director guarantees the hospital standards behind any operation, and the skin and dermatology members of the team carry the scar and wound-healing work that surrounds it.

Tongchun Mao

Tongchun Mao (毛彤春)

Deputy Director & Head of Aesthetic Surgery · Vice Chief Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending · Lead Physician of This Site

Facial surgery · revision planning · honest limits

Dr. Tongchun Mao is an aesthetic surgeon at Chongqing West District Hospital, where he is Deputy Director and Head of Aesthetic Surgery in its Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center and the responsible physician for this site. He personally performs more than 700 operations a year, within hospital standards of assessment, anaesthesia and follow-up.

His assessment of a face that may need revision begins with the previous operation rather than with the complaint: what was done, when, through which approach, and in what plane, because the tissue he is looking at has already been moved once and will not move the same way again. He examines function before appearance, testing the forehead, the eyes and the mouth before discussing a hairline or a scar, and he records the position of the ear and the sideburn as a baseline rather than reconstructing it later from memory. He is deliberate about timing, and he will say that a face is not ready to be judged yet even when a patient is ready for an answer. Where a second lift would add risk without changing what the patient is asking about, he says so, and offers the narrower operation or none.

Clinical focus

  • Assessment of a face for revision, including review of the previous operative record
  • Immediate management of a collection of blood under the skin after a lift
  • Recognition of nerve weakness and of skin that is losing its blood supply
  • Hairline position, ear position and scar revision after facial surgery
  • Judging when healing is complete enough to plan, and when to offer nothing further

A second lift has less to work with than the first

Tissue that has been lifted once has already been moved, and it scars. It drapes less freely, holds tension differently, and heals with less margin for error. That does not make revision impossible, and it does mean the honest offer is narrower than the first operation was: specific improvements, planned carefully, rather than a return to how the face looked before.

Shaoliang Wang

Shaoliang Wang (王韶亮)

Director, Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center · Vice Chief Physician, Associate Professor, Doctor of Medicine

Centre leadership · surgical standards

Dr. Shaoliang Wang is Director of the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital. Within the team he provides the surgical perspective and the tertiary-hospital backstop — the assessment when an operation is the honest answer, and the hospital-level care for the rare complication that needs it.

Within this team Dr. Wang is the guarantee that a revision plan sits inside a departmental standard rather than beside it: anaesthesia, theatre and inpatient care in a tertiary general hospital, which is what an early complication after a lift may need.

Clinical focus

  • Center leadership and multidisciplinary case review
  • Surgical assessment when an operation is the honest answer to descent or excess skin
  • Hospital-based care for the rare complication that needs theatre-level management
Ke He

Ke He (何锞)

Deputy Director & Head of Skin & Laser Aesthetics · Attending Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending

Skin and laser assessment · scars

Dr. Ke He is Deputy Director and head of skin and laser aesthetics within the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital. Within the team her role is the device and injectable assessment, and the honest referral when a problem needs an operation rather than a needle.

Within this team Dr. He carries the non-surgical half of the plan: the assessment of scars once they have matured, the management of pigment and barrier problems along incision lines, and the skin treatments that can improve a scar without another operation.

Clinical focus

  • Device and injectable assessment before any treatment plan
  • Staged planning judged against standardised photographs
  • Honest referral when a problem needs an operation rather than a needle
Yongbo Jia

Yongbo Jia (贾勇波)

Deputy Director & Head of Dermatology · Vice Chief Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending

Dermatology · wound healing · skin

Dr. Yongbo Jia is a dermatologist within the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital. Within the team his role is medical skin assessment — diagnosing and managing pigment and barrier conditions, and treating skin that a device or an injection has irritated.

Within this team Dr. Jia assesses the skin itself: whether a wound is healing or infected, how a flap is behaving at its margins, and the skin conditions that can interfere with healing after facial surgery.

Clinical focus

  • Medical skin assessment behind injectable treatment plans
  • Diagnosis and management of pigment and barrier conditions
  • Dermatologic care of skin after irritation or a delayed reaction

Worried after a lift, or weighing a second one?

Contact the team rather than waiting for a routine review. This site cannot assess you, and whether the question is an early complication or a revision, the assessment is what makes the difference.
